NEW YORK & NEW JERSEY

For over 50 years, Covenant House New York (CHNY) & Covenant House New York (CHNJ) have been leaders in providing residential services to vulnerable homeless, runaway, and exploited youth. As the largest provider of runaway and homeless youth services in New York City, CHNY serves over 1,600 young adults ages 16-24 annually with an operating budget of over 30 million dollars. Our doors are open to all young people who need help, regardless of their race, religion, sexual orientation, gender identity, or expression. We facilitate our services using trauma-informed principles to help homeless youth leave the streets and achieve independence. We also advocate for systemic change through public policy while promoting awareness of critical issues related to youth homelessness.  Covenant House New York’s mission is to help each young person find safety and refuge from the dangers of living on the streets. We do this through compassion, unconditional love, and absolute respect.

For over 45 years, the Center for Safety & Change has worked tirelessly with victims, survivors, and their family members, offering life-saving and life-changing programs and services to thousands in Rockland and beyond. On October 5, 1979, we opened the doors to our Emergency Shelter and waited for the rotary phone to ring.  On the first day, we filled 11 beds and on the second day, we filled the remaining four.  Since then, the phones have not stopped ringing.  Today, our shelter remains a haven for thousands of children and families.  From Rockland Family Shelter to Center for Safety & Change, our agency has grown into our name, as the only victim-centered non-profit organization in Rockland, offering free and confidential life-changing programs and services to victims and survivors of domestic violence, sexual assault, human trafficking, and other crimes.
